A little past midway
Hello all! I’m a little past halfway here on my volunteer trip to Africa, and it is safe to say that i have learned more than I thought i would have X 1000000000. Its humbling to be in a place like this, and i have been feeling like crap the last few days for takign for granted everything i have in America. Today I went again to another house with WAMATA and talked for an hour with a man named Noel - whose sister is a person living with HIV and was being assisted by WAMATA. He was telling me how he was going to go to college right after secondary school but had to wait 10 years to actually go because of his family and their financial situation - hes finally leaving for it on saturday. he’s 28. And he’s still short on the money. I just…can’t believe it and feel incredibly lucky to have wehat I have back home in the States.
I am also working closely woith WAMATA on getting a grant for them from the Arusha Project. again, much of what we do is support local NGO’s with grants and other people with a microcredit program so that they can do the work they know needs to be done in Arusha and the surrounding area. I am hoping that with my presentation to the board, with Emily, we can get them the funds they need to get education to the community and do some good.
On a lighter note, saturday is the safari, and sunday is another waterfall hike. Superrrr stoked. i also finished my shopppingggg at massaiii marketttt. be perpared for some coool stuff guys haha. On wednesday we also were able to visit the UN ICTR (international criminal tribunal for Rwanda), where they are trying to finish up the trials against those who worked with the regime that commited genocide in 1994. It was an excellent experience, though a little boring. Court was out of session, but just being there was really fun. we even got un badges hahahahaha.
running out of time o nthe internet again so ill cut it off here. Tell you hwo everythign goes!
Baadaye:)
