Aang Serian Group and Meru District Hospital
Wow. I can honestly say that what the Aang Serian Group is doing to fight FGM is amazing. They work internally, and use a modified right of passage rather than an alternative right of passage (as in nothing too invasive) to get the people in the villages to be more accepting of women who have not had FGM. They were also the most generous people ever - they offered us sodas while we were there, even when they had very little to give.
As for Meru Hospital, it was very eye-opening. I was given an orientation tour then allowed to shadow a doctor for about 1.5 hours in the pediatrics ward. It was eye-opening and very sad. I felt very helpless seeing all those kids affected by malaria and pneumonia and all these other diseases that we have control over in the States. I wonder what else I can do to help. I am going back tomorrow to figure that out.
I wish I could write more but I am low on time, and the internet is very slow so I hope this still uplaods. More to come soon.
